<t /><p class="poetry">Wisdom gives a wise person more protection<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">than ten rulers in a city.p>

<p class="poetry">A generation comes<n id="1" /> and a generation goes,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">but the earth remains<n id="3" /> the same<n id="4" /> through the ages.<n id="5" />p>

<p class="poetry">There was once<n id="1" /> a small city with a few men in it,p> <p class="poetry">and a mighty king attacked it, besieging<n id="2" /> it and building strong<n id="3" /> siege works against it.p>

<t /><p class="poetry">But whoever is among<n id="1" /> the living<n id="2" /> has hope;p> <p class="poetry">a live dog is better than a dead lion.p>

<t /><p class="poetry">Who is<n id="1" /> a<n id="2" /> wise person? Who knows the solution<n id="3" /> to a problem?<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">A person&#8217;s wisdom brightens his appearance,<n id="5" /> and softens<n id="6" /> his harsh countenance.<n id="7" />p>

<t /><p class="poetry">The words of a wise person<n id="1" /> win him<n id="2" /> favor,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">but the words<n id="4" /> of a fool are self-destructive.<n id="5" />p>

<t /><p class="poetry">A wise person&#8217;s good sense protects him,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">but a fool&#8217;s lack of sense leaves him vulnerable.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">Even when a fool walks along the road he lacks sense,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">and shows<n id="2" /> everyone what a fool he is.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">So what advantage does a wise man have over a fool?<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">And what advantage<n id="2" /> does a pauper gain by knowing how to survive?<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">One dead fly<n id="1" /> makes the perfumer&#8217;s ointment give off a rancid stench,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">so a little folly can outweigh<n id="3" /> much wisdom.<n id="4" />p>

<p class="poetry">Even though a sinner might commit a hundred crimes<n id="1" /> and still live a long time,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">yet I know that it will go well with God-fearing people<n id="3" /> &#8211; for they stand in fear<n id="4" /> before him.p>
