and elaborate greetings ¹  in the marketplaces, and to have people call them ‘Rabbi.’

He said to them, “How then does David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying,

And call no one your ‘father’ on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.

“Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call him ¹  Emmanuel,” ²  which means ³  “God with us.” ⁴ 

When ¹  it was evening ²  the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, ‘Call the workers and give the pay ³  starting with the last hired until the first.’

Go and learn what this saying means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ ¹  For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

“To ¹  what should I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to one another, ² 

Or do you think that I cannot call on my Father, and that he would send me more than twelve legions ¹  of angels right now?

He sent his slaves ¹  to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.

She will give birth to a son and you will name him ¹  Jesus, ²  because he will save his people from their sins.”

And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven ¹  to the other.

Now ¹  as Jesus was going out of the temple courts and walking away, his disciples came to show him the temple buildings. ² 

If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” ¹ 

Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one teacher, the Christ. ¹ 

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house ‘Beelzebul,’ how much more will they defame the members of his household!

But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher and you are all brothers.

At that he began to curse, and he swore with an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment a rooster crowed. ¹ 

He said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

But Jesus was silent. The ¹  high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, ²  the Son of God.”

But I say to you that anyone who is angry with a brother ¹  will be subjected to judgment. And whoever insults ²  a brother will be brought before ³  the council, ⁴  and whoever says ‘Fool’ ⁵  will be sent ⁶  to fiery hell. ⁷
