Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, ¹  which is called the Passover, was approaching.

Matthew, Thomas, ¹  James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, ² 

Then ¹  Pilate called together the chief priests, the ²  rulers, and the people,

So ¹  he called one of the slaves ²  and asked what was happening.

Then ¹  Satan ²  entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve. ³ 

After ¹  Jesus ²  called ³  the twelve ⁴  together, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure ⁵  diseases,

When ¹  Jesus saw her, he called her to him ²  and said, “Woman, ³  you are freed ⁴  from your infirmity.” ⁵ 

I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me ¹  like one of your hired workers.”’

So ¹  he called out, ²  “Jesus, Son of David, ³  have mercy ⁴  on me!”

When ¹  morning came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: ² 

Soon ¹  afterward ²  Jesus ³  went to a town ⁴  called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him.

Now ¹  when he approached Bethphage ²  and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, ³  he sent two of the disciples,

He ¹  will be great, ²  and will be called the Son of the Most High, ³  and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father ⁴  David.

And you, child, ¹  will be called the prophet ²  of the Most High. ³  For you will go before ⁴  the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁵ 

Then ¹  his son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven ²  and against you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ ³ 

John’s ¹  disciples informed him about all these things. So ²  John called ³  two of his disciples

and also some women ¹  who had been healed of evil spirits and disabilities: ²  Mary ³  (called Magdalene), from whom seven demons had gone out,

When ¹  the apostles returned, ²  they told Jesus ³  everything they had done. Then ⁴  he took them with him and they withdrew privately to a town ⁵  called Bethsaida. ⁶ 

So ¹  Jesus ²  said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ ³ 

Now ¹  that very day two of them ²  were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles ³  from Jerusalem. ⁴
