that the evil man is spared from the day of his misfortune, that he is delivered ¹  from the day of God’s wrath?

After this Job opened his mouth ²  and cursed ³  the day he was born. ⁴ 

which I reserve for the time of trouble, for the day of war and battle? ¹ 

Let those who curse the day ¹  curse it ²  – those who are prepared to rouse ³  Leviathan. ⁴ 

he wanders about – food for vultures; ¹  he knows that the day of darkness is at hand. ² 

These men ¹  change ²  night into day; they say, ³  ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’ ⁴ 

“Let the day on which ¹  I was born ²  perish, and the night that said, ³  ‘A man ⁴  has been conceived!’ ⁵ 

A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God’s wrath.

That day ¹  – let it be darkness; ²  let not God on high regard ³  it, nor let light shine ⁴  on it!

Now the day came when ²  the sons of God ³  came to present themselves before ⁴  the Lord – and Satan ⁵  also arrived among them.

Now the day ²  came when Job’s ³  sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

Again the day came when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also arrived among them to present himself before the Lord. ¹ 

Let darkness and the deepest shadow ¹  claim it; ²  let a cloud settle on it; let whatever blackens the day ³  terrify it!

In the dark the robber ¹  breaks into houses, ²  but by day they shut themselves in; ³  they do not know the light. ⁴ 

If I lie down, I say, ¹  ‘When will I arise?’, and the night stretches on ²  and I toss and turn restlessly ³  until the day dawns.

Look away from him and let him desist, ¹  until he fulfills ²  his time like a hired man.

People of the west ¹  are appalled at his fate; ²  people of the east are seized with horror, ³  saying, ⁴ 

Now his sons used to go ¹  and hold ²  a feast in the house of each one in turn, ³  and they would send and invite ⁴  their three ⁵  sisters to eat and to drink with them.

Let its morning stars ¹  be darkened; let it wait ²  for daylight but find none, ³  nor let it see the first rays ⁴  of dawn,

Have I not wept for the unfortunate? ¹  Was not my soul grieved for the poor?
