The ¹  next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  assembled before Pilate

On that day after Jesus went out of the house, he sat by the lake.

For this reason that field has been called the “Field of Blood” to this day.

The same day Sadducees ¹  (who say there is no resurrection) ²  came to him and asked him, ³ 

Therefore stay alert, because you do not know the day or the hour. ¹ 

“Therefore stay alert, because you do not know on what day ¹  your Lord will come.

I ¹  tell you that on the day of judgment, people will give an account for every worthless word they speak.

They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised.” And they became greatly distressed.

At that moment Jesus said to the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw? ¹  Day after day I sat teaching in the temple courts, yet ²  you did not arrest me.

But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you!

But I tell you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom ¹  on the day of judgment than for you!”

“But as for that day and hour no one knows it – not even the angels in heaven ¹  – except the Father alone.

No one ¹  was able to answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to question him any longer.

I tell you the truth, ¹  it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom and Gomorrah ²  on the day of judgment than for that town!

and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged severely ¹  and crucified. ²  Yet ³  on the third day, he will be raised.”
