All this took<n id="1" /> about four hundred fifty years. After this<n id="2" /> he gave them judges until the time of<n id="3" /> Samuel the prophet.

Therefore he also says in another psalm,<n id="1" /> &#8216;<b><i>You will not permit your Holy Onei>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>to experiencei>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>decayi>b>.&#8217;<n id="4" />

He<n id="1" /> did not give any of it to him for an inheritance,<n id="2" /> not even a foot of ground,<n id="3" /> yet God<n id="4" /> promised <i>to give it to him as his possession, and to his descendants after himi>,<n id="5" /> even though Abraham<n id="6" /> as yet had no child.

Then<n id="1" /> they cast lots for them, and the one chosen was Matthias;<n id="2" /> so he was counted with the eleven apostles.<n id="3" />p>

but<n id="1" /> God raised him up on the third day and caused him to be seen,<n id="2" />

And God, who knows the heart,<n id="1" /> has testified<n id="2" /> to them by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,<n id="3" />

nor is he served by human hands, as if he needed anything,<n id="1" /> because he himself gives life and breath and everything to everyone.<n id="2" />

All<n id="1" /> of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages<n id="2" /> as the Spirit enabled them.<n id="3" />p>

And now, Lord, pay attention to<n id="1" /> their threats, and grant<n id="2" /> to your servants<n id="3" /> to speak your message<n id="4" /> with great courage,<n id="5" />

God exalted him<n id="1" /> to his right hand as Leader<n id="2" /> and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.<n id="3" />

And we are witnesses of these events,<n id="1" /> and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey<n id="2" /> him.&#8221;p>

He thought his own people<n id="1" /> would understand that God was delivering them<n id="2" /> through him,<n id="3" /> but they did not understand.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Now Simon, when he saw that the Spirit<n id="1" /> was given through the laying on of the apostles&#8217; hands, offered them money,

saying, &#8220;Give me this power<n id="1" /> too, so that everyone I place my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.&#8221;

He gave<n id="1" /> her his hand and helped her get up. Then he called<n id="2" /> the saints and widows and presented her alive.

When they heard this,<n id="1" /> they ceased their objections<n id="2" /> and praised<n id="3" /> God, saying, &#8220;So then, God has granted the repentance<n id="4" /> that leads to life even to the Gentiles.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

Immediately an angel of the Lord<n id="1" /> struck<n id="2" /> Herod<n id="3" /> down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.<n id="4" />

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled<n id="1" /> forty years.
