<p class="poetry">For God<n id="1" /> was pleased to have all his<n id="2" /> fullness dwell<n id="3" /> in the Son<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">So when we could bear it no longer, we decided to stay on in Athens<n id="1" /> alone.

For Macedonia and Achaia are pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were cut down in the wilderness.

Thus we are full of courage and would prefer to be away<n id="1" /> from the body and at home with the Lord.

And<n id="1" /> a voice from heaven said,<n id="2" /> &#8220;This is my one dear Son;<n id="3" /> in him<n id="4" /> I take great delight.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

For they were pleased to do this, and indeed they are indebted to the Jerusalem saints.<n id="1" /> For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are obligated also to minister to them in material things.

Therefore I am content with<n id="1" /> weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties<n id="2" /> for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.p>

But when the one<n id="1" /> who set me apart from birth<n id="2" /> and called me by his grace was pleased

with such affection for you<n id="1" /> we were happy<n id="2" /> to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

<p class="bodytext">When he says above, &#8220;<b><i>Sacrifices and offeringsi>b> and <b><i>whole burnt offerings and sin-offeringsi>b> <b><i>you did not desire nor did you take delighti>b> in them&#8221;<n id="1" /> (which are offered according to the law),

While he was still speaking, a<n id="1" /> bright cloud<n id="2" /> overshadowed<n id="3" /> them, and a voice from the cloud said,<n id="4" /> &#8220;This is my one dear Son,<n id="5" /> in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!&#8221;<n id="6" />

and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove.<n id="1" /> And a voice came from heaven, &#8220;You are my one dear Son;<n id="2" /> in you I take great delight.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching.
