Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you when he said,p>

so that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:<n id="1" />p>

This fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet:<n id="1" />p>

For this reason they could not believe,<n id="1" /> because again Isaiah said,p>

<p class="bodyblock">Isaiah said these things because he saw Christ&#8217;s<n id="1" /> glory, and spoke about him.p>

and was returning home, sitting<n id="1" /> in his chariot, reading<n id="2" /> the prophet Isaiah.

But not all have obeyed the good news, for Isaiah says, &#8220;<i><b>Lordb>, <b>who has believed our reportb>i>?&#8221;<n id="1" />

In this way what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet was fulfilled:<n id="1" />p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<i><b>He took our weaknesses and carried our diseasesb>.i>&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,<n id="1" />p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<b><i>Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>who will prepare your way,i>b><n id="2" />p>

and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He<n id="1" /> unrolled<n id="2" /> the scroll and found the place where it was written,p>

<p class="bodytext">John<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;I am <b><i>the voice of one shouting in the wilderness, &#8216;Make straighti>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>the way for the Lord,&#8217;i>b><n id="3" /> as Isaiah the prophet said.&#8221;

so that the word<n id="1" /> of Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled. He said,<n id="2" /> &#8220;<b><i>Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lordi>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>been revealed?i>b>&#8221;<n id="4" />

So Philip ran up<n id="1" /> to it<n id="2" /> and heard the man<n id="3" /> reading Isaiah the prophet. He<n id="4" /> asked him,<n id="5" /> &#8220;Do you understand what you&#8217;re reading?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">And Isaiah cries out on behalf of Israel, &#8220;<i>Though the number of the childreni><n id="1" /> <i>of Israel are as the sand of the seai>, <i>only the remnant will be savedi>,

Just<n id="1" /> as Isaiah predicted,p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<b><i>If the Lord of armiesi>b><n id="2" /> <i><b>had not left us descendantsb>,i>p> <p class="otpoetry"><i><b>we would have become like Sodomb>,i>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>and we would have resembled Gomorrah.&#8221;i>b><n id="3" />p>

And Isaiah is even bold enough to say, &#8220;<b><i>I was found by those who did not seek me; I became well known to those who did not ask for mei>b>.&#8221;<n id="1" />

And again Isaiah says, &#8220;<i><b>The root of Jesse will comeb>, <b>and the one who rises to rule over the Gentilesb>, <b>in him will the Gentiles hopeb>i>.&#8221;<n id="1" />

For he is the one about whom Isaiah the prophet had spoken:<n id="1" />p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<b><i>The voicei>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>of one shouting in the wilderness,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8216;<b><i>Prepare the way for the Lord, makei>b><n id="3" /> <i><b>his paths straightb>.i>&#8217;&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

And concerning them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says:p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8216;<b><i>You will listen carefullyi>b><n id="1" /> <b><i>yet will never understand,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>you will look closelyi>b><n id="2" /> <i><b>yet will never comprehendb>.i>p>

He said to them, &#8220;Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written:p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8216;<b><i>This people honors me with their lips,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>but their hearti>b><n id="1" /> <i><b>is far from meb>.i>p>
