So<n id="1" /> he sent and had John beheaded in the prison.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now when Jesus<n id="1" /> heard that John had been imprisoned,<n id="2" /> he went into Galilee.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John appeared.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodyblock">For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, &#8216;He has a demon!&#8217;<n id="1" />

because John had repeatedly told<n id="1" /> him, &#8220;It is not lawful for you to have her.&#8221;<n id="2" />

Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness<n id="1" /> of Judea proclaiming,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River.<n id="1" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now when John<n id="1" /> heard in prison about the deeds Christ<n id="2" /> had done, he sent his disciples to ask a question:<n id="3" />

Jesus answered them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Go tell John what you hear and see:<n id="2" />

They answered, &#8220;Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,<n id="1" /> and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.&#8221;

But if we say, &#8216;From people,&#8217; we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then John&#8217;s<n id="1" /> disciples came to Jesus<n id="2" /> and asked, &#8220;Why do we and the Pharisees<n id="3" /> fast often,<n id="4" /> but your disciples don&#8217;t fast?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">While they were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: &#8220;What did you go out into the wilderness<n id="1" /> to see? A reed shaken by the wind?<n id="2" />

From<n id="1" /> the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and forceful people lay hold of it.<n id="2" />

For Herod had arrested John, bound him,<n id="1" /> and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip&#8217;s wife,

Instructed by her mother, she said, &#8220;Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Six days later<n id="1" /> Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James,<n id="2" /> and led them privately up a high mountain.

<p class="bodytext">Now John wore clothing made from camel&#8217;s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.<n id="1" />

Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat<n id="1" /> with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then<n id="2" /> he called them.
