But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised!”

<p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> when the other ten<n id="2" /> heard this,<n id="3" /> they became angry with James and John.

John&#8217;s baptism &#8211; was it from heaven or from people?<n id="1" /> Answer me.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> John&#8217;s<n id="2" /> disciples and the Pharisees<n id="3" /> were fasting.<n id="4" /> So<n id="5" /> they came to Jesus<n id="6" /> and said, &#8220;Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don&#8217;t fast?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">In the wilderness<n id="1" /> John the baptizer<n id="2" /> began preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> as soon as they left the synagogue,<n id="2" /> they entered Simon and Andrew&#8217;s house, with James and John.

For John had repeatedly told<n id="1" /> Herod, &#8220;It is not lawful for you to have your brother&#8217;s wife.&#8221;<n id="2" />

But if we say, &#8216;From people &#8211; &#8217;&#8221; (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

He took Peter, James,<n id="1" /> and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

John wore a garment made of camel&#8217;s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.<n id="1" />

Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in their<n id="1" /> boat mending nets.

to James and his brother John, the sons of Zebedee,<n id="1" /> he gave the name Boanerges (that is, &#8220;sons of thunder&#8221;);

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James,<n id="1" /> and John, the brother of James.

So<n id="1" /> she went out and said to her mother, &#8220;What should I ask for?&#8221; Her mother<n id="2" /> said, &#8220;The head of John the baptizer.&#8221;<n id="3" />

Immediately she hurried back to the king and made her request:<n id="1" /> &#8220;I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.&#8221;

They said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;John the Baptist, others say Elijah,<n id="2" /> and still others, one of the prophets.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">John said to him, &#8220;Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not following us.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, &#8220;Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.&#8221;
