But Peter began and explained it to them point by point,<n id="1" /> saying,

But they said to her, &#8220;You&#8217;ve lost your mind!&#8221;<n id="1" /> But she kept insisting that it was Peter,<n id="2" /> and they kept saying,<n id="3" /> &#8220;It is his angel!&#8221;<n id="4" />

But others jeered at the speakers,<n id="1" /> saying, &#8220;They are drunk on new wine!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

Yet the Most High<n id="1" /> does not live in houses made by human hands,<n id="2" /> as the prophet says,p>

saying, &#8220;You went to<n id="1" /> uncircumcised men and shared a meal with<n id="2" /> them.&#8221;

I also heard a voice saying to me, &#8216;Get up, Peter; slaughter<n id="1" /> and eat!&#8217;

Therefore he also says in another psalm,<n id="1" /> &#8216;<b><i>You will not permit your Holy Onei>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>to experiencei>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>decayi>b>.&#8217;<n id="4" />

Even by saying<n id="1" /> these things, they scarcely persuaded<n id="2" /> the crowds not to offer sacrifice to them.p>

saying, &#8220;This man is persuading<n id="1" /> people to worship God in a way contrary to<n id="2" /> the law!&#8221;

So Paul<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Into what then were you baptized?&#8221; &#8220;Into John&#8217;s baptism,&#8221; they replied.<n id="2" />

Those standing near him<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Do you dare insult<n id="2" /> God&#8217;s high priest?&#8221;

Some were convinced<n id="1" /> by what he said,<n id="2" /> but others refused<n id="3" /> to believe.

After the reading from the law and the prophets,<n id="1" /> the leaders of the synagogue<n id="2" /> sent them a message,<n id="3" /> saying, &#8220;Brothers,<n id="4" /> if you have any message<n id="5" /> of exhortation<n id="6" /> for the people, speak it.&#8221;<n id="7" />

when he said,p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8216;<b><i>Go to this people and say,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<b><i>You will keep on hearing,i>b><n id="1" /> <b><i>but will never understand,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>and you will keep on looking,i>b><n id="2" /> <i><b>but will never perceiveb>.i>p>

Then they prayed,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Lord, you know the hearts of all. Show us which one of these two you have chosen

Completely baffled, they said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Aren&#8217;t<n id="2" /> all these who are speaking Galileans?

All were astounded and greatly confused, saying to one another, &#8220;What does this mean?&#8221;

But Peter and the apostles replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;We must obey<n id="2" /> God rather than people.<n id="3" />

Then they secretly instigated<n id="1" /> some men to say, &#8220;We have heard this man<n id="2" /> speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.&#8221;

They<n id="1" /> continued to stone Stephen while he prayed, &#8220;Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!&#8221;
