But Peter<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;Explain this parable to us.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> when Jesus entered Peter&#8217;s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down,<n id="2" /> sick with a fever.

Simon Peter answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You are the Christ,<n id="2" /> the Son of the living God.&#8221;

Peter<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;If they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away!&#8221;

He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and became anguished and distressed.

Peter<n id="1" /> said to him,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Lord, if it is you, order me to come to you on the water.&#8221;

So he said, &#8220;Come.&#8221; Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.

So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him:<n id="1" /> &#8220;God forbid,<n id="2" /> Lord! This must not happen to you!&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Six days later<n id="1" /> Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James,<n id="2" /> and led them privately up a high mountain.

<t /><p class="bodytext">After<n id="1" /> they arrived in Capernaum,<n id="2" /> the collectors of the temple tax<n id="3" /> came to Peter and said, &#8220;Your teacher pays the double drachma tax, doesn&#8217;t he?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then Peter came to him and said, &#8220;Lord, how many times must I forgive my brother<n id="1" /> who sins against me? As many as seven times?&#8221;

Then Peter said<n id="1" /> to him, &#8220;Look,<n id="2" /> we have left everything to follow you!<n id="3" /> What then will there be for us?&#8221;

Peter said to him, &#8220;Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.&#8221; And all the disciples said the same thing.p>

Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He<n id="1" /> said to Peter, &#8220;So, couldn&#8217;t you stay awake with me for one hour?

But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest&#8217;s courtyard. After<n id="1" /> going in, he sat with the guards<n id="2" /> to see the outcome.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A<n id="1" /> slave girl<n id="2" /> came to him and said, &#8220;You also were with Jesus the Galilean.&#8221;

Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said: &#8220;Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.&#8221; And he went outside and wept bitterly.<n id="1" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">As<n id="1" /> he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).<n id="2" />

Now these are the names of the twelve apostles:<n id="1" /> first, Simon<n id="2" /> (called Peter), and Andrew his brother; James son of Zebedee and John his brother;

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades<n id="1" /> will not overpower it.
