Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to look for Saul,

They did so,<n id="1" /> sending their financial aid<n id="2" /> to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.p>

But Saul (also known as Paul),<n id="1" /> filled with the Holy Spirit,<n id="2" /> stared straight<n id="3" /> at him

<t /><p class="bodytext">Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats<n id="1" /> to murder<n id="2" /> the Lord&#8217;s disciples, went to the high priest

<p class="bodytext">So Barnabas and Saul returned to<n id="1" /> Jerusalem<n id="2" /> when they had completed<n id="3" /> their mission,<n id="4" /> bringing along with them John Mark.<n id="5" />p>

When<n id="1" /> they had driven him out of the city, they began to stone him,<n id="2" /> and the witnesses laid their cloaks<n id="3" /> at the feet of a young man named Saul.

But Saul was trying to destroy<n id="1" /> the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off<n id="2" /> both men and women and put them in prison.<n id="3" />p>

So Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open,<n id="1" /> he could see nothing.<n id="2" /> Leading him by the hand, his companions<n id="3" /> brought him into Damascus.

But Saul became more and more capable,<n id="1" /> and was causing consternation<n id="2" /> among the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving<n id="3" /> that Jesus<n id="4" /> is the Christ.<n id="5" />p>

but Saul learned of their plot against him.<n id="1" /> They were also watching<n id="2" /> the city gates<n id="3" /> day and night so that they could kill him.

who was with the proconsul<n id="1" /> Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. The proconsul<n id="2" /> summoned<n id="3" /> Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear<n id="4" /> the word of God.

And Saul agreed completely with killing<n id="1" /> him.p><t /><p class="bodytext">Now on that day a great<n id="2" /> persecution began<n id="3" /> against the church in Jerusalem,<n id="4" /> and all<n id="5" /> except the apostles were forced to scatter throughout the regions<n id="6" /> of Judea and Samaria.

Then the Lord told him, &#8220;Get up and go to the street called &#8216;Straight,&#8217;<n id="1" /> and at Judas&#8217; house look for a man from Tarsus named Saul. For he is praying,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now there were these prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch:<n id="1" /> Barnabas, Simeon called Niger,<n id="2" /> Lucius the Cyrenian,<n id="3" /> Manaen (a close friend of Herod<n id="4" /> the tetrarch<n id="5" /> from childhood<n id="6" />) and Saul.

While they were serving<n id="1" /> the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, &#8220;Set apart<n id="2" /> for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.&#8221;
