But I will warn<n id="1" /> you whom you should fear: Fear the one who, after the killing,<n id="2" /> has authority to throw you<n id="3" /> into hell.<n id="4" /> Yes, I tell you, fear him!

<p class="poetry">from<n id="1" /> generation to generation he is merciful<n id="2" /> to those who fear<n id="3" /> him.p>

So<n id="1" /> the angel said to her, &#8220;Do not be afraid,<n id="2" /> Mary, for you have found favor<n id="3" /> with God!

An<n id="1" /> angel of the Lord<n id="2" /> appeared to<n id="3" /> them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified.<n id="4" />

But when Jesus heard this, he told<n id="1" /> him, &#8220;Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.&#8221;<n id="2" />

In fact, even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid;<n id="1" /> you are more valuable than many sparrows.p>

He said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;In a certain city<n id="2" /> there was a judge<n id="3" /> who neither feared God nor respected people.<n id="4" />

The<n id="1" /> chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="2" /> were trying to find some way<n id="3" /> to execute<n id="4" /> Jesus,<n id="5" /> for they were afraid of the people.<n id="6" />p>

But the angel said to them, &#8220;Do not be afraid! Listen carefully,<n id="1" /> for I proclaim to you good news<n id="2" /> that brings great joy to all the people:

As<n id="1" /> he was saying this, a cloud<n id="2" /> came<n id="3" /> and overshadowed<n id="4" /> them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;I<n id="1" /> tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body,<n id="2" /> and after that have nothing more they can do.

For<n id="1" /> a while he refused, but later on<n id="2" /> he said to himself, &#8216;Though I neither fear God nor have regard for people,<n id="3" />

For I was afraid of you, because you are a severe<n id="1" /> man. You withdraw<n id="2" /> what you did not deposit<n id="3" /> and reap what you did not sow.&#8217;

But the other rebuked him, saying,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Don&#8217;t<n id="2" /> you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?<n id="3" />

But the angel said to him, &#8220;Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard,<n id="1" /> and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son; you<n id="2" /> will name him John.<n id="3" />

and so were James and John, Zebedee&#8217;s sons, who were Simon&#8217;s business partners.<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> Jesus said to Simon, &#8220;Do not be afraid; from now on<n id="3" /> you will be catching people.&#8221;<n id="4" />

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Where is your faith?&#8221;<n id="2" /> But they were afraid and amazed,<n id="3" /> saying to one another, &#8220;Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water,<n id="4" /> and they obey him!&#8221;p>

So<n id="1" /> the people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus. They<n id="2" /> found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus&#8217; feet, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.

But they did not understand this statement; its meaning<n id="1" /> had been concealed<n id="2" /> from them, so that they could not grasp it. Yet<n id="3" /> they were afraid to ask him about this statement.p>
