Thus I told you<n id="1" /> that you will die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am he,<n id="2" /> you will die in your sins.&#8221;p>

You aren&#8217;t greater than our father Abraham who died, are you?<n id="1" /> And the prophets died too! Who do you claim to be?&#8221;

&#8220;Sir,&#8221; the official said to him, &#8220;come down before my child dies.&#8221;

Your ancestors<n id="1" /> ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus told them plainly, &#8220;Lazarus has died,

(Now he said this to indicate clearly what kind of death he was going to die.)<n id="1" />p>

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone.<n id="2" /> But if it dies, it produces<n id="3" /> much grain.<n id="4" />

So Thomas (called Didymus<n id="1" />)<n id="2" /> said to his fellow disciples, &#8220;Let us go too, so that we may die with him.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Martha<n id="1" /> said to Jesus, &#8220;Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

and the one who lives and believes in me will never die.<n id="1" /> Do you believe this?&#8221;

(Now it was Caiaphas who had advised<n id="1" /> the Jewish leaders<n id="2" /> that it was to their advantage that one man die for the people.)<n id="3" />p>

(This happened<n id="1" /> to fulfill the word Jesus had spoken when he indicated<n id="2" /> what kind of death he was going to die.<n id="3" />)p>

This<n id="1" /> is the bread that has come down from heaven, so that a person<n id="2" /> may eat from it and not die.

Jesus said to her, &#8220;I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live<n id="1" /> even if he dies,

But some of them said, &#8220;This is the man who caused the blind man to see!<n id="1" /> Couldn&#8217;t he have done something to keep Lazarus<n id="2" /> from dying?&#8221;p>

You do not realize<n id="1" /> that it is more to your advantage to have one man<n id="2" /> die for the people than for the whole nation to perish.&#8221;<n id="3" />

(Now he did not say this on his own,<n id="1" /> but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish nation,<n id="2" />

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;We have a law,<n id="3" /> and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

So the saying circulated<n id="1" /> among the brothers and sisters<n id="2" /> that this disciple was not going to die. But Jesus did not say to him that he was not going to die, but rather, &#8220;If I want him to live<n id="3" /> until I come back,<n id="4" /> what concern is that of yours?&#8221;p>

When he heard that Jesus had come back from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and begged him<n id="1" /> to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.
