saying, “This man is persuading ¹  people to worship God in a way contrary to ²  the law!”

because you will be his witness ¹  to all people ²  of what you have seen and heard.

At daybreak ¹  the magistrates ²  sent their police officers, ³  saying, “Release those men.”

This is the reason ¹  I do my best to always ²  have a clear ³  conscience toward God and toward people. ⁴ 

But a Pharisee ¹  whose name was Gamaliel, ²  a teacher of the law who was respected by all the people, stood up ³  in the council ⁴  and ordered the men to be put outside for a short time.

But Paul said to the police officers, ¹  “They had us beaten in public ²  without a proper trial ³  – even though we are Roman citizens ⁴  – and they threw us ⁵  in prison. And now they want to send us away ⁶  secretly? Absolutely not! They ⁷  themselves must come and escort us out!” ⁸
