For John had repeatedly told<n id="1" /> Herod, &#8220;It is not lawful for you to have your brother&#8217;s wife.&#8221;<n id="2" />

Then some Pharisees<n id="1" /> came, and to test him<n id="2" /> they asked, &#8220;Is it lawful for a man to divorce his<n id="3" /> wife?&#8221;<n id="4" />

So<n id="1" /> he told them, &#8220;Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.

There were seven brothers. The first one married,<n id="1" /> and when he died he had no children.

In the resurrection, when they rise again,<n id="1" /> whose wife will she be? For all seven had married her.&#8221;<n id="2" />

For Herod himself had sent men, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip&#8217;s wife, because Herod<n id="1" /> had married her.
