These had gone on ahead<n id="1" /> and were waiting for us in Troas.<n id="2" />

But we must<n id="1" /> run aground on some island.&#8221;p>

But Paul said to the police officers,<n id="1" /> &#8220;They had us beaten in public<n id="2" /> without a proper trial<n id="3" /> &#8211; even though we are Roman citizens<n id="4" /> &#8211; and they threw us<n id="5" /> in prison. And now they want to send us away<n id="6" /> secretly? Absolutely not! They<n id="7" /> themselves must come and escort us out!&#8221;<n id="8" />

Peter looked directly<n id="1" /> at him (as did John) and said, &#8220;Look at us!&#8221;

When we arrived in Jerusalem, the brothers welcomed us gladly.<n id="1" />

When<n id="1" /> our time was over,<n id="2" /> we left and went on our way. All of them, with their wives and children, accompanied<n id="3" /> us outside of the city. After<n id="4" /> kneeling down on the beach and praying,<n id="5" />

There the centurion<n id="1" /> found<n id="2" /> a ship from Alexandria<n id="3" /> sailing for Italy, and he put us aboard it.

They also bestowed many honors,<n id="1" /> and when we were preparing to sail,<n id="2" /> they gave<n id="3" /> us all the supplies we needed.<n id="4" />p>

Thus one of the men<n id="1" /> who have accompanied us during all the time the Lord Jesus associated with<n id="2" /> us,

So the twelve<n id="1" /> called<n id="2" /> the whole group<n id="3" /> of the disciples together and said, &#8220;It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to wait on tables.<n id="4" />

Then as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on<n id="1" /> them just as he did<n id="2" /> on us at the beginning.<n id="3" />

So when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted<n id="1" /> in the Lycaonian language,<n id="2" /> &#8220;The gods have come down to us in human form!&#8221;<n id="3" />

They strengthened<n id="1" /> the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue<n id="2" /> in the faith, saying, &#8220;We must enter the kingdom<n id="3" /> of God through many persecutions.&#8221;<n id="4" />

After Paul<n id="1" /> saw the vision, we attempted<n id="2" /> immediately to go over to Macedonia,<n id="3" /> concluding that God had called<n id="4" /> us to proclaim the good news to them.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">After<n id="1" /> we<n id="2" /> tore ourselves away<n id="3" /> from them, we put out to sea,<n id="4" /> and sailing a straight course,<n id="5" /> we came to Cos,<n id="6" /> on the next day to Rhodes,<n id="7" /> and from there to Patara.<n id="8" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">When it was decided we<n id="1" /> would sail to Italy,<n id="2" /> they handed over Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion<n id="3" /> of the Augustan Cohort<n id="4" /> named Julius.

We sailed slowly<n id="1" /> for many days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus.<n id="2" /> Because the wind prevented us from going any farther,<n id="3" /> we sailed under the lee<n id="4" /> of Crete off Salmone.<n id="5" />

When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and a violent<n id="1" /> storm continued to batter us,<n id="2" /> we finally abandoned all hope of being saved.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Now in the region around that place<n id="1" /> were fields belonging to the chief official<n id="2" /> of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us hospitably as guests for three days.

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people<n id="1" /> by which we must<n id="2" /> be saved.&#8221;p>
