He addressed<n id="1" /> both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue<n id="2" /> every Sabbath, attempting to persuade<n id="3" /> them.p>

because you are especially<n id="1" /> familiar with all the customs and controversial issues<n id="2" /> of the Jews. Therefore I ask<n id="3" /> you to listen to me patiently.

<t /><p class="bodytext">What then? Are we better off? Certainly not, for we have already charged that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Jesus said to those Judeans<n id="1" /> who had believed him, &#8220;If you continue to follow my teaching,<n id="2" /> you are really<n id="3" /> my disciples

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the people<n id="1" /> who had come with her weeping, he was intensely moved<n id="2" /> in spirit and greatly distressed.<n id="3" />

But Saul became more and more capable,<n id="1" /> and was causing consternation<n id="2" /> among the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving<n id="3" /> that Jesus<n id="4" /> is the Christ.<n id="5" />p>

This went on for two years, so that all who lived in the province of Asia,<n id="1" /> both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord.<n id="2" />p>

Paul wanted Timothy<n id="1" /> to accompany him, and he took<n id="2" /> him and circumcised<n id="3" /> him because of the Jews who were in those places,<n id="4" /> for they all knew that his father was Greek.<n id="5" />

There he<n id="1" /> found<n id="2" /> a Jew named Aquila,<n id="3" /> a native of Pontus,<n id="4" /> who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius<n id="5" /> had ordered all the Jews to depart from<n id="6" /> Rome.<n id="7" /> Paul approached<n id="8" /> them,

But just as Paul was about to speak,<n id="1" /> Gallio said to the Jews, &#8220;If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy,<n id="2" /> I would have been justified in accepting the complaint<n id="3" /> of you Jews,<n id="4" />

They have been informed about you &#8211; that you teach all the Jews now living<n id="1" /> among the Gentiles to abandon<n id="2" /> Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children<n id="3" /> or live<n id="4" /> according to our customs.

Paul replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I am standing before Caesar&#8217;s<n id="2" /> judgment seat,<n id="3" /> where I should be tried.<n id="4" /> I have done nothing wrong<n id="5" /> to the Jews, as you also know very well.<n id="6" />

To the Jews I became like a Jew to gain the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law)<n id="1" /> to gain those under the law.

&#8216;I know the distress you are suffering<n id="1" /> and your poverty (but you are rich). I also know<n id="2" /> the slander against you<n id="3" /> by those who call themselves Jews and really are not, but are a synagogue<n id="4" /> of Satan.

Listen!<n id="1" /> I am going to make those people from the synagogue<n id="2" /> of Satan &#8211; who say they are Jews yet<n id="3" /> are not, but are lying &#8211; Look, I will make<n id="4" /> them come and bow down<n id="5" /> at your feet and acknowledge<n id="6" /> that I have loved you.
