and the rest were to follow, ¹  some on planks ²  and some on pieces of the ship. ³  And in this way ⁴  all were brought safely to land.

until the day he was taken up to heaven, ¹  after he had given orders ²  by ³  the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

They stood these men before the apostles, who prayed ¹  and placed ²  their hands on them.

But there are some Jews from the province of Asia ¹  who should be here before you and bring charges, ²  if they have anything against me.

I will rescue ¹  you from your own people ²  and from the Gentiles, to whom ³  I am sending you

He told them, “You are not permitted to know ¹  the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.

I answered them ¹  that it was not the custom of the Romans to hand over anyone ²  before the accused had met his accusers face to face ³  and had been given ⁴  an opportunity to make a defense against the accusation. ⁵ 

The brothers from there, ¹  when they heard about us, came as far as the Forum of Appius ²  and Three Taverns ³  to meet us. When he saw them, ⁴  Paul thanked God and took courage.
