There was no king in Edom at this time; a governor ruled.

chief Magdiel, chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements<n id="1" /> in the land they possessed. This was Esau, the father of the Edomites.p>

During David&#8217;s campaign against Edom,<n id="1" /> Joab, the commander of the army, while on a mission to bury the dead, killed every male in Edom.

He placed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David&#8217;s subjects. The <sc>Lordsc> protected<n id="1" /> David wherever he campaigned.<n id="2" />p>

I will exact my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel. They will carry out in Edom my anger and rage; they will experience<n id="1" /> my vengeance, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;&#8221;p>

So Esau (also known as Edom) lived in the hill country of Seir.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="poetry">Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">trembling will seize<n id="2" /> the leaders of Moab,p> <p class="poetry">and the inhabitants of Canaan will shake.p>
