They were haughty and practiced abominable deeds before me. Therefore when I saw it I removed them.

<p class="poetry">Its boughs were strong, fit<n id="1" /> for rulers&#8217; scepters; it reached up into the clouds.p> <p class="poetry">It stood out because of its height and its many branches.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">this is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says:p> <p class="poetry">Tear off the turban,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">take off the crown!p> <p class="poetry">Things must change!<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Exalt the lowly,p> <p class="poetry">bring down the proud!<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">Your heart was proud because of your beauty;p> <p class="poetry">you corrupted your wisdom on account of your splendor.p> <p class="poetry">I threw you down to the ground;p> <p class="poetry">I placed you before kings, that they might see you.p>

<p class="poetry">Therefore it grew taller than all the trees of the field;p> <p class="poetry">its boughs grew large and its branches grew long,p> <p class="poetry">because of the plentiful water in its shoots.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;Therefore this is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: Because it was tall in stature, and its top reached into the clouds, and it was proud of its height,

<p class="poetry">All the trees of the field will know that I am the <sc>Lord.sc>p> <p class="poetry">I make the high tree low; I raise up the low tree.p> <p class="poetry">I make the green tree wither, and I make the dry tree sprout.p> <p class="poetry">I, the <sc>Lord,sc> have spoken, and I will do it!&#8217;&#8221;p>

&#8220;Son of man, say to the prince<n id="1" /> of Tyre, &#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says:p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;&#8216;Your heart is proud<n id="2" /> and you said, &#8220;I am a god;<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas&#8221; &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">yet you are a man and not a god,p> <p class="poetry">though you think you are godlike.<n id="4" />p>

For this reason no watered trees will grow so tall; their tops will not reach into the clouds, nor will the well-watered ones grow that high.<n id="1" /> For all of them have been appointed to die in the lower parts of the earth;<n id="2" /> they will be among mere mortals,<n id="3" /> with those who descend to the pit.p>
