In this<n id="1" /> vision I saw myself in Susa<n id="2" /> the citadel,<n id="3" /> which is located in the province of Elam. In the vision I saw myself at the Ulai Canal.<n id="4" />

As it turned out,<n id="1" /> among these young men<n id="2" /> were some from Judah:<n id="3" /> Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.<n id="4" />

Now Daniel lived on until the first<n id="1" /> year of Cyrus the king.p>

At an appointed time he will again invade the south, but this latter visit will not turn out the way the former one did.

He will extend his power<n id="1" /> against other lands; the land of Egypt will not escape.

<p class="poetry">&#8220;At that time Michael,p> <p class="poetry">the great prince who watches over your people,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">will arise.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">There will be a time of distressp> <p class="poetry">unlike any other from the nation&#8217;s beginning<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">up to that time.p> <p class="poetry">But at that time your own people,p> <p class="poetry">all those whose names are<n id="4" /> found written in the book,p> <p class="poetry">will escape.p>

I saw it approaching the ram. It went into a fit of rage against the ram<n id="1" /> and struck it<n id="2" /> and broke off its two horns. The ram had no ability to resist it.<n id="3" /> The goat hurled the ram<n id="4" /> to the ground and trampled it. No one could deliver the ram from its power.<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">While I, Daniel, was watching the vision, I sought to understand it. Now one who appeared to be a man was standing before me.

<p class="bodytext">I, Daniel, was exhausted<n id="1" /> and sick for days. Then I got up and again carried out the king&#8217;s business. But I was astonished at the vision, and there was no one to explain it.p>

<p class="bodytext">On the twenty-fourth day of the first month<n id="1" /> I was beside the great river, the Tigris.<n id="2" />

I listened to his voice,<n id="1" /> and as I did so<n id="2" /> I fell into a trance-like sleep with my face to the ground.

<p class="bodytext">While I was contemplating all this,<n id="1" /> a male goat<n id="2" /> was coming from the west over the surface of all the land<n id="3" /> without touching the ground. This goat had a conspicuous horn<n id="4" /> between its eyes.

in the first year of his reign<n id="1" /> I, Daniel, came to understand from the sacred books<n id="2" /> that, according to the word of the <sc>LORDsc><n id="3" /> disclosed to the prophet Jeremiah, the years for the fulfilling of the desolation of Jerusalem<n id="4" /> were seventy in number.

<p class="bodytext">Only I, Daniel, saw the vision; the men who were with me did not see it.<n id="1" /> On the contrary, they were overcome with fright<n id="2" /> and ran away to hide.

His intention<n id="1" /> will be to come with the strength of his entire kingdom, and he will form alliances.<n id="2" /> He will give the king of the south<n id="3" /> a daughter<n id="4" /> in marriage in order to destroy the kingdom, but it will not turn out to his advantage.
