The wicked become ¹  a ransom ²  for the righteous, and the faithless ³  are taken ⁴  in the place of the upright.

and if ¹  God ²  is gracious to him and says, ‘Spare ³  him from going down to the place of corruption, I have found a ransom for him,’ ⁴ 

The ransom ¹  of a person’s ²  life is his wealth, but the poor person hears no threat. ³ 

My beloved is like a cluster of henna blossoms ¹  in the vineyards of En-Gedi. ² 

If a ransom is set for him, ¹  then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.

Moreover, you must not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death; he must surely be put to death.

Be careful that ¹  no one entices you with riches; do not let a large bribe ²  turn you aside.

Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother; ¹  he cannot pay God an adequate ransom price ² 

He will not consider ¹  any compensation; ²  he will not be willing, even if you multiply the compensation. ³ 

Your shoots are a royal garden ¹  full of pomegranates with choice fruits: henna with nard,

Make ¹  for yourself an ark of cypress ²  wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover ³  it with pitch inside and out.

And you must not accept a ransom for anyone who has fled to a town of refuge, to allow him to return home and live on his own land before the death of the high priest. ¹ 

For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, ¹  your deliverer. I have handed over Egypt as a ransom price, Ethiopia and Seba ²  in place of you.

Certainly ¹  I am aware of ²  your many rebellious acts ³  and your numerous sins. You ⁴  torment the innocent, you take bribes, and you deny justice to ⁵  the needy at the city gate. ⁶
