“‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for the nations which I am about to drive out before you ¹  have been defiled with all these things.

“‘By these ¹  you defile yourselves; anyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until the evening,

“‘If in spite of these things ¹  you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me, ² 

when an individual becomes guilty with regard to one of these things ¹  he must confess how he has sinned, ² 

These are the ones that are unclean to you among all the swarming things. Anyone who touches them when they die will be unclean until evening.

For if anyone does any of these abominations, the persons who do them will be cut off from the midst of their people. ¹ 

“‘These are the Lord’s appointed times, holy assemblies, which you must proclaim at their appointed time.

If, however, ¹  he is not redeemed in these ways, he must go free ²  in the jubilee year, he and his children with him,

“‘If, however, ¹  you do not obey me and keep ²  all these commandments –

“‘If, in spite of all these things, ¹  you do not obey me, I will discipline you seven times more on account of your sins. ² 

These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses to tell the Israelites ¹  at Mount Sinai.

“‘You must bring the grain offering that must be made from these to the Lord. Present it to the priest, ¹  and he will bring it to the altar.

So the priest will make atonement ¹  on his behalf for his sin which he has committed by doing one of these things, ²  and he will be forgiven. ³  The remainder of the offering ⁴  will belong to the priest like the grain offering.’” ⁵ 

“‘These you are to detest from among the birds – they must not be eaten, because they are detestable: ¹  the griffon vulture, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,

These you may eat from them: ¹  the locust of any kind, the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, the grasshopper of any kind.

You yourselves must obey ¹  my statutes and my regulations and must not do any of these abominations, both the native citizen and the resident foreigner in your midst, ² 

You must not walk in the statutes of the nation ¹  which I am about to drive out before you, because they have done all these things and I am filled with disgust against them.

He must not marry ¹  a widow, a divorced woman, or one profaned by prostitution; he may only take a virgin from his people ²  as a wife.

Even from a foreigner ¹  you must not present the food of your God from such animals as these, for they are ruined and flawed; ²  they will not be acceptable for your benefit.’”

“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘These are the Lord’s appointed times which you must proclaim as holy assemblies – my appointed times: ¹
