From the Israelites&#8217; half-share you are to take one portion out of fifty of the people, the cattle, the donkeys, and the sheep &#8211; from every kind of animal &#8211; and you are to give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s tabernacle.&#8221;p>

And your raised offering will be credited<n id="1" /> to you as though it were grain from the threshing floor or as new wine<n id="2" /> from the winepress.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;You must exact<n id="1" /> a tribute for the <sc>Lordsc> from the fighting men who went out to battle: one life out of five hundred, from the people, the cattle, and from the donkeys and the sheep.

When they came to the valley of Eshcol, they cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a staff<n id="1" /> between two men, as well as some of the pomegranates and the figs.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;But the person<n id="1" /> who acts defiantly,<n id="2" /> whether native-born or a resident foreigner, insults<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="4" /> That person<n id="5" /> must be cut off<n id="6" /> from among his people.

<n id="1" /> And the cloud of the <sc>Lordsc> was over them by day, when they traveled<n id="2" /> from the camp.

<p class="bodytext">From the Israelites&#8217; share Moses took one of every fifty people and animals and gave them to the Levites who were responsible for the care of the Lord&#8217;s tabernacle, just as the <sc>Lordsc> commanded Moses.p>

I am not able to bear this entire people alone,<n id="1" /> because it<n id="2" /> is too heavy for me!

And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of those who had investigated the land, tore their garments.

I will strike them with the pestilence,<n id="1" /> and I will disinherit them; I will make you into a nation that is greater and mightier than they!&#8221;p>

From all your gifts you must offer up every raised offering due<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc>, from all the best of it, and the holiest part of it.&#8217;<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Therefore you will say to them,<n id="1" /> &#8216;When you offer up<n id="2" /> the best of it, then it will be credited to the Levites as the product of the threshing floor and as the product of the winepress.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;And this will be your northern border: From the Great Sea you will draw a line to Mount Hor;

And the priest must take the boiled shoulder of the ram, one cake made without yeast from the basket, and one wafer made without yeast, and put them on the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved his consecrated head;<n id="1" />

and you make an offering by fire to the <sc>Lordsc> from the herd or from the flock (whether a burnt offering or a sacrifice for discharging a vow or as a freewill offering or in your solemn feasts) to create a pleasing aroma to the <sc>Lordsc>,

&#8220;You are to speak to the Levites, and you must tell them, &#8216;When you receive from the Israelites the tithe that I have given you from them as your inheritance, then you are to offer up<n id="1" /> from it as a raised offering to the <sc>Lordsc> a tenth of the tithe.

So<n id="1" /> now, please come and curse this nation<n id="2" /> for me, for they are too powerful for me. Perhaps I will prevail so that we may conquer them<n id="3" /> and drive them out of the land. For I know that whoever you bless is blessed,<n id="4" /> and whoever you curse is cursed.&#8221;p>

&#8220;Command the Israelites to expel<n id="1" /> from the camp every leper,<n id="2" /> everyone who has a discharge,<n id="3" /> and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse.<n id="4" />
