If you have no desire<n id="1" /> to worship<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc>, choose today whom you will worship,<n id="3" /> whether it be the gods whom your ancestors<n id="4" /> worshiped<n id="5" /> beyond the Euphrates,<n id="6" /> or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But I and my family<n id="7" /> will worship<n id="8" /> the <sc>Lordsc>!&#8221;p>

If you should report what we&#8217;ve been up to,<n id="1" /> we are not bound by this oath you made us swear.&#8221;

But you must be loyal to<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> your God, as you have been<n id="2" /> to this very day.p>

&#8220;El, God, the <sc>Lordsc>!<n id="1" /> El, God, the <sc>Lordsc>! He knows the truth!<n id="2" /> Israel must also know! If we have rebelled or disobeyed the <sc>Lordsc>,<n id="3" /> don&#8217;t spare us<n id="4" /> today!

If we have built<n id="1" /> an altar for ourselves to turn back from following the <sc>Lordsc> by making<n id="2" /> burnt sacrifices and grain offerings on it, or by offering<n id="3" /> tokens of peace<n id="4" /> on it, the <sc>Lordsc> himself will punish us.<n id="5" />

We swear we have done this because we were worried that<n id="1" /> in the future your descendants would say to our descendants, &#8216;What relationship do you have with the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel?<n id="2" />

But if you ever turn away and make alliances with<n id="1" /> these nations that remain near you,<n id="2" /> and intermarry with them and establish friendly relations with them,<n id="3" />
