When they hear about your great reputation<n id="1" /> and your ability to accomplish mighty deeds,<n id="2" /> they will come and direct their prayers toward this temple.

May he make us submissive,<n id="1" /> so we can follow all his instructions<n id="2" /> and obey<n id="3" /> the commandments, rules, and regulations he commanded our ancestors.

<p class="bodytext">He had 700 royal wives<n id="1" /> and 300 concubines;<n id="2" /> his wives had a powerful influence over him.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> was angry with Solomon because he had shifted his allegiance<n id="1" /> away from the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him on two occasions<n id="2" />

They came from nations about which the <sc>Lordsc> had warned the Israelites, &#8220;You must not establish friendly relations with them!<n id="1" /> If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.&#8221;<n id="2" /> But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them.<n id="3" />p>

When Solomon became old, his wives shifted his allegiance to<n id="1" /> other gods; he was not wholeheartedly devoted to the <sc>Lordsc> his God, as his father David had been.<n id="2" />
