<p class="bodytext">Moses assigned land to the tribe of Reuben<n id="1" /> by its clans.

She answered, &#8220;Please give me a special present.<n id="1" /> Since you have given me land in the Negev, now give me springs of water. So he gave her both upper and lower springs.p>

But don&#8217;t you delay! Chase your enemies and catch them!<n id="1" /> Don&#8217;t allow them to retreat to<n id="2" /> their cities, for the <sc>Lordsc> your God is handing them over to you.&#8221;<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">The other half of Manasseh,<n id="1" /> Reuben, and Gad received their allotted tribal lands beyond the Jordan,<n id="2" /> just as Moses, the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s servant, had assigned them.

Now Moses had assigned land<n id="1" /> to the two-and-a-half tribes east of the Jordan, but he assigned no land<n id="2" /> to the Levites.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">So the <sc>Lordsc> gave Israel all the land he had solemnly promised to their ancestors,<n id="1" /> and they conquered<n id="2" /> it and lived in it.

and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I assigned Mount Seir,<n id="1" /> while Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

<p class="bodytext">Moses assigned land to the tribe of Gad<n id="1" /> by its clans.

Then you rise up from your hiding place<n id="1" /> and seize<n id="2" /> the city. The <sc>Lordsc> your God will hand it over to you.

<p class="bodytext">Moses assigned land to the half-tribe of Manasseh<n id="1" /> by its clans.

Joshua asked God to empower Caleb son of Jephunneh and assigned him Hebron.<n id="1" />

When Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb&#8217;s brother,<n id="1" /> captured it, Caleb<n id="2" /> gave Acsah his daughter to him as a wife.p>

Whenever the Israelites were strong militarily, they forced the Canaanites to do hard labor, but they never totally conquered them.<n id="1" />p>

(Now the city&#8217;s fields and surrounding towns they had assigned to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.)

They went before Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> told Moses to assign us land among our relatives.&#8221;<n id="1" /> So Joshua<n id="2" /> assigned them land among their uncles, as the <sc>Lordsc> had commanded.<n id="3" />

(Now to one half-tribe of Manasseh, Moses had assigned land in Bashan; and to the other half Joshua had assigned land on the west side of the Jordan with their fellow Israelites.) When Joshua sent them home,<n id="1" /> he rewarded<n id="2" /> them,

I am handing over to you every place you set foot, as I promised Moses.<n id="1" />

Be strong and brave! You must lead these people in the conquest of this land that I solemnly promised their ancestors I would hand over to them.<n id="1" />

They told Joshua, &#8220;Surely the <sc>Lordsc> is handing over all the land to us!<n id="1" /> All who live in the land are cringing before us!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

The <sc>Lordsc> told Joshua, &#8220;See, I am about to defeat Jericho for you,<n id="1" /> along with its king and its warriors.
