The whole Babylonian army that came with the captain of the royal guard tore down the walls that surrounded Jerusalem.

You must surround the king. Each of you must hold his weapon in his hand. Whoever approaches your ranks must be killed. You must accompany the king wherever he goes.&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

The royal bodyguard<n id="1" /> took their stations, each holding his weapon in his hand. They lined up from the south side of the temple to the north side and stood near the altar and the temple, surrounding the king.<n id="2" />

Then Elisha prayed, &#8220;O <sc>Lordsc>, open his eyes so he can see.&#8221; The <sc>Lordsc> opened the servant&#8217;s eyes and he saw that<n id="1" /> the hill was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

They rejected his rules, the covenant he had made with their ancestors, and the laws he had commanded them to obey.<n id="1" /> They paid allegiance to<n id="2" /> worthless idols, and so became worthless to the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="3" /> They copied the practices of the surrounding nations in blatant disregard of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s command.<n id="4" />

So King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came against Jerusalem with his whole army and set up camp outside<n id="1" /> it. They built siege ramps all around it. He arrived on the tenth day of the tenth month in the ninth year of Zedekiah&#8217;s reign.<n id="2" />

The enemy broke through the city walls,<n id="1" /> and all the soldiers tried to escape. They left the city during the night.<n id="2" /> They went through the gate between the two walls that is near the king&#8217;s garden.<n id="3" /> (The Babylonians were all around the city.) Then they headed for the Jordan Valley.<n id="4" />

Each of the pillars was about twenty-seven feet<n id="1" /> high. The bronze top of one pillar was about four and a half feet<n id="2" /> high and had bronze latticework and pomegranate shaped ornaments all around it. The second pillar with its latticework was like it.p>
