So Moses said to the judges of Israel, &#8220;Each of you must execute those of his men<n id="1" /> who were joined to Baal-peor.&#8221;p>

and rebelled against Moses, along with some of the Israelites, 250 leaders<n id="1" /> of the community, chosen from the assembly,<n id="2" /> famous men.<n id="3" />

These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

<p class="bodytext">So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been mentioned specifically by name,

those men who produced the evil report about the land, died by the plague before the <sc>Lordsc>.

And God came to Balaam and said, &#8220;Who are these men with you?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">These were the men whom Moses and Aaron numbered<n id="1" /> along with the twelve leaders of Israel, each of whom<n id="2" /> was from his own family.

<p class="bodytext">So Moses went out and told the people the words of the <sc>Lordsc>. He then gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and had them stand around the tabernacle.

<p class="bodytext">Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone into the battle, &#8220;This is the ordinance of the law that the <sc>Lordsc> commanded Moses:

Now look, you are standing in your fathers&#8217; place, a brood of sinners, to increase still further the fierce wrath of the <sc>Lordsc> against the Israelites.

<p class="bodytext">It happened that some men<n id="1" /> who were ceremonially defiled<n id="2" /> by the dead body of a man<n id="3" /> could not keep<n id="4" /> the Passover on that day, so they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

&#8220;Send out men to investigate<n id="1" /> the land of Canaan, which I am giving<n id="2" /> to the Israelites. You are to send one man from each ancestral tribe,<n id="3" /> each one a leader among them.&#8221;

For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted<n id="1" /> me now these ten times,<n id="2" /> and have not obeyed me,<n id="3" />
