<t /><p class="bodytext">Then he uttered this oracle:<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;The oracle of Balaam son of Beor;p> <p class="poetry">the oracle of the man whose eyes are open;p>

set him<n id="1" /> before Eleazar the priest and before the whole community, and commission<n id="2" /> him publicly.<n id="3" />

then they will tell it to the inhabitants<n id="1" /> of this land. They have heard that you, <sc>Lordsc>, are among this people, that you, <sc>Lord,sc> are seen face to face,<n id="2" /> that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them by day in a pillar of cloud and in a pillar of fire by night.

<p class="bodytext">Just then<n id="1" /> one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers<n id="2" /> a Midianite woman in the plain view of Moses and of<n id="3" /> the whole community of the Israelites, while they<n id="4" /> were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

and a man has sexual relations<n id="1" /> with her<n id="2" /> without her husband knowing it,<n id="3" /> and it is hidden that she has defiled herself, since<n id="4" /> there was no witness against her, nor was she caught &#8211;

Moses<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Do not leave us,<n id="2" /> because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide.<n id="3" />

But if you are going to deal<n id="1" /> with me like this, then kill me immediately.<n id="2" /> If I have found favor in your sight then do not let me see my trouble.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Then the heifer must be burned<n id="1" /> in his sight &#8211; its skin, its flesh, its blood, and its offal is to be burned.<n id="2" />

When Balaam lifted up his eyes, he saw Israel camped tribe by tribe;<n id="1" /> and the Spirit of God came upon him.
