The king of Assyria marched through<n id="1" /> the whole land. He attacked Samaria and besieged it for three years.

<p class="bodytext">He went up from there to Bethel.<n id="1" /> As he was traveling up the road, some young boys<n id="2" /> came out of the city and made fun of him, saying, &#8220;Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">At that time King Hazael of Syria attacked<n id="1" /> Gath and captured it. Hazael then decided to attack Jerusalem.<n id="2" />

Furthermore it was by the command of the <sc>Lordsc> that I marched up against this place to destroy it. The <sc>Lordsc> told me, &#8216;March<n id="1" /> up against this land and destroy it.&#8217;&#8221;&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Just before<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> took Elijah up to heaven in a windstorm, Elijah and Elisha were traveling from Gilgal.

He then asked, &#8220;Which invasion route are we going to take?&#8221;<n id="1" /> Jehoram<n id="2" /> answered, &#8220;By the road through the Desert of Edom.&#8221;

She went up and laid him down on the prophet&#8217;s<n id="1" /> bed. She shut the door behind her and left.

King Shalmaneser of Assyria threatened<n id="1" /> him; Hoshea became his subject and paid him tribute.

<p class="bodytext">At that time the generals<n id="1" /> of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon marched to Jerusalem and besieged the city.<n id="2" />

The king<n id="1" /> asked them, &#8220;Describe the appearance<n id="2" /> of this man who came up to meet you and told you these things.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a fiery chariot<n id="1" /> pulled by fiery horses appeared.<n id="2" /> They went between Elijah and Elisha,<n id="3" /> and Elijah went up to heaven in a windstorm.

<p class="bodytext">Sure enough, the next morning, at the time of the morning sacrifice, water came flowing down from Edom and filled the land.<n id="1" />

Now all Moab had heard that the kings were attacking,<n id="1" /> so everyone old enough to fight was mustered and placed at the border.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Later King Ben Hadad of Syria assembled his entire army and attacked<n id="1" /> and besieged Samaria.<n id="2" />

But Amaziah would not heed the warning,<n id="1" /> so King Jehoash of Israel attacked.<n id="2" /> He and King Amaziah of Judah met face to face<n id="3" /> in Beth Shemesh of Judah.

Menahem son of Gadi went up from Tirzah to<n id="1" /> Samaria and attacked Shallum son of Jabesh.<n id="2" /> He killed him and took his place as king.

<p class="bodytext">At that time King Rezin of Syria and King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel attacked Jerusalem.<n id="1" /> They besieged Ahaz,<n id="2" /> but were unable to conquer him.<n id="3" />

The king of Assyria responded favorably to his request;<n id="1" /> he<n id="2" /> attacked Damascus and captured it. He deported the people<n id="3" /> to Kir and executed Rezin.p>
