The anger of the <sc>Lordsc> burned against them, and he departed.

When Israel joined themselves to Baal-peor,<n id="1" /> the anger of the <sc>Lordsc> flared up against Israel.p>

So the anger of the <sc>Lordsc> was kindled that day, and he swore,

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">When the people complained,<n id="2" /> it displeased<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc>. When the <sc>Lordsc> heard<n id="4" /> it, his anger burned,<n id="5" /> and so<n id="6" /> the fire of the <sc>Lordsc><n id="7" /> burned among them and consumed some of the outer parts of the camp.

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Moses heard the people weeping<n id="2" /> throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent; and when the anger of the <sc>Lordsc> was kindled greatly, Moses was also displeased.<n id="3" />

But while the meat was still between their teeth, before they chewed it,<n id="1" /> the anger of the <sc>Lordsc> burned against the people, and the <sc>Lordsc> struck the people with a very great plague.p>

When the donkey saw the angel of the <sc>Lordsc>, she crouched down under Balaam. Then Balaam was angry, and he beat his donkey with a staff.p>

Then the <sc>Lordsc> opened Balaam&#8217;s eyes, and he saw the angel of the <sc>Lordsc> standing in the way with his sword drawn in his hand; so he bowed his head and threw himself down with his face to the ground.<n id="1" />

So the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s anger was kindled against the Israelites, and he made them wander in the wilderness for forty years, until all that generation that had done wickedly before<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> was finished.<n id="2" />

Now look, you are standing in your fathers&#8217; place, a brood of sinners, to increase still further the fierce wrath of the <sc>Lordsc> against the Israelites.

but a whole month,<n id="1" /> until it comes out your nostrils and makes you sick,<n id="2" /> because you have despised<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> who is among you and have wept before him, saying, &#8220;Why<n id="4" /> did we ever come out of Egypt?&#8221;&#8217;&#8221;p>

&#8216;The <sc>Lordsc> is slow to anger and abounding in loyal love,<n id="1" /> forgiving iniquity and transgression,<n id="2" /> but by no means clearing<n id="3" /> the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children until the third and fourth generations.&#8217;<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then God&#8217;s anger was kindled<n id="1" /> because he went, and the angel of the <sc>Lordsc> stood in the road to oppose<n id="2" /> him. Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.

<p class="bodytext">Then Balak became very angry at Balaam, and he struck his hands together.<n id="1" /> Balak said to Balaam, &#8220;I called you to curse my enemies, and look, you have done nothing but bless<n id="2" /> them these three times!

<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Arrest all the leaders<n id="1" /> of the people, and hang them up<n id="2" /> before the <sc>Lordsc> in broad daylight,<n id="3" /> so that the fierce anger of the <sc>Lordsc> may be turned away from Israel.&#8221;
