So he set it before them; they ate and had some left over, just as the <sc>Lordsc> predicted.<n id="1" />p>

Judah was defeated by Israel, and each man ran back home.<n id="1" />

He told his servant Gehazi, &#8220;Ask the Shunammite woman to come here.&#8221;<n id="1" /> So he did so and she came to him.<n id="2" />

Raiding parties went out from Syria and took captive from the land of Israel a young girl, who became a servant to Naaman&#8217;s wife.

But Elisha<n id="1" /> replied, &#8220;As certainly as the <sc>Lordsc> lives (whom I serve),<n id="2" /> I will take nothing from you.&#8221; Naaman<n id="3" /> insisted that he take it, but he refused.

Therefore Naaman&#8217;s skin disease will afflict<n id="1" /> you and your descendants forever!&#8221; When Gehazi<n id="2" /> went out from his presence, his skin was as white as snow.<n id="3" />p>

Elisha<n id="1" /> just stared at him until Hazael became uncomfortable.<n id="2" /> Then the prophet started crying.

He did evil in the sight of<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc>, but not to the same degree as the Israelite kings who preceded him.

He turned his face to the wall and prayed to the <sc>Lordsc>,

He did evil in the sight of<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> and committed the same horrible sins practiced by the nations<n id="2" /> whom the <sc>Lordsc> drove out from before the Israelites.

Jehoiachin<n id="1" /> took off his prison clothes and ate daily in the king&#8217;s presence for the rest of his life.

Elisha said, &#8220;As certainly as the <sc>Lordsc> who rules over all <n id="1" /> lives (whom I serve),<n id="2" /> if I did not respect King Jehoshaphat of Judah,<n id="3" /> I would not pay attention to you or acknowledge you.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Now Gehazi went on ahead of them. He placed the staff on the child&#8217;s face, but there was no sound or response. When he came back to Elisha<n id="1" /> he told him, &#8220;The child did not wake up.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Naaman, the commander of the king of Syria&#8217;s army, was esteemed and respected by his master,<n id="1" /> for through him the <sc>Lordsc> had given Syria military victories. But this great warrior had a skin disease.<n id="2" />

He moved the bronze altar that stood in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s presence from the front of the temple (between the altar and the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple) and put it on the north side of the new<n id="1" /> altar.

&#8216;You displayed a sensitive spirit<n id="1" /> and humbled yourself before the <sc>Lordsc> when you heard how I intended to make this place and its residents into an appalling example of an accursed people.<n id="2" /> You tore your clothes and wept before me, and I have heard you,&#8217; says the <sc>Lordsc>.

The <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s angelic messenger said to Elijah, &#8220;Go down with him. Don&#8217;t be afraid of him.&#8221; So he got up and went down<n id="1" /> with him to the king.p>

When they approached the Israelite camp, the Israelites rose up and struck down the Moabites, who then ran from them. The Israelites<n id="1" /> thoroughly defeated<n id="2" /> Moab.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Elisha went back to Gilgal, while there was famine in the land. Some of the prophets were visiting him<n id="1" /> and he told his servant, &#8220;Put the big pot on the fire<n id="2" /> and boil some stew for the prophets.&#8221;<n id="3" />

But his attendant said, &#8220;How can I feed a hundred men with this?&#8221;<n id="1" /> He replied, &#8220;Set it before the people so they may eat, for this is what the <sc>Lordsc> says, &#8216;They will eat and have some left over.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />
