<t /><p class="bodytext">In the first<n id="1" /> year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had<n id="2" /> a dream filled with visions<n id="3" /> while he was lying on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream in summary fashion.<n id="4" />

We also inquired of their names in order to inform you, so that we might write the names of the men who were their leaders.

I saw a dream that<n id="1" /> frightened me badly. The things I imagined while lying on my bed &#8211; these visions of my mind &#8211; were terrifying me.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed,<n id="1" /> and the visions of my mind<n id="2" /> were alarming me.

As for that statue, its head was of fine gold, its chest and arms were of silver, its belly and thighs were of bronze.

Here are the visions of my mind<n id="1" /> while I was on my bed.p> <p class="poetry">While I was watching,p> <p class="poetry">there was a tree in the middle of the land.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">It was enormously tall.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">While I was watching in my mind&#8217;s visions<n id="1" /> on my bed,p> <p class="poetry">a holy sentinel<n id="2" /> came down from heaven.p>

However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries,<n id="1" /> and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the times to come.<n id="2" /> The dream and the visions you had while lying on your bed<n id="3" /> are as follows.p>

Wherever human beings,<n id="1" /> wild animals,<n id="2" /> and birds of the sky live &#8211; he has given them into your power.<n id="3" /> He has given you authority over them all. You are the head of gold.

Once the satraps, prefects, governors, and ministers of the king had gathered around, they saw that those men were physically<n id="1" /> unharmed by the fire.<n id="2" /> The hair of their heads was not singed, nor were their trousers damaged. Not even the smell of fire was to be found on them!p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;After these things,<n id="1" /> as I was watching, another beast<n id="2" /> like a leopard appeared, with four bird-like wings on its back.<n id="3" /> This beast had four heads,<n id="4" /> and ruling authority was given to it.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;While I was watching,p> <p class="poetry">thrones were set up,p> <p class="poetry">and the Ancient of Days<n id="1" /> took his seat.p> <p class="poetry">His attire was white like snow;p> <p class="poetry">the hair of his head was like lamb&#8217;s<n id="2" /> wool.p> <p class="poetry">His throne was ablaze with firep> <p class="poetry">and its wheels were all aflame.<n id="3" />p>

I also wanted to know<n id="1" /> the meaning of the ten horns on its head, and of that other horn which came up and before which three others fell. This was the horn that had eyes<n id="2" /> and a mouth speaking arrogant things, whose appearance was more formidable than the others.<n id="3" />
