The Lord pays attention to the godly and hears their cry for help. ¹ 

He satisfies the desire ¹  of his loyal followers; ²  he hears their cry for help and delivers them.

You heard ¹  my plea: ²  “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief!” ³ 

The people ¹  who did not die were struck with sores; the city’s cry for help went all the way up to heaven.

In my distress I called to the Lord; I called to my God. ¹  From his heavenly temple ²  he heard my voice; he listened to my cry for help. ³

The prayer of an oppressed man, as he grows faint and pours out his lament before the Lord. O Lord, hear my prayer! Pay attention to my cry for help! ² 

¹ During ²  that long period of time ³  the king of Egypt died, and the Israelites ⁴  groaned because of the slave labor. They cried out, and their desperate cry ⁵  because of their slave labor went up to God.

I hear my dear people ¹  crying out ²  throughout the length and breadth of the land. ³  They are crying, ‘Is the Lord no longer in Zion? Is her divine King ⁴  no longer there?’” The Lord answers, ⁵  “Why then do they provoke me to anger with their images, with their worthless foreign idols?” ⁶
