<t /><p class="poetry">Listen, you Israelites, to this message which the <sc>Lordsc> is proclaiming against<n id="1" /> you! This message is for the entire clan I brought up<n id="2" /> from the land of Egypt:

<p class="poetry">Listen to this message, you cows of Bashan<n id="1" /> who live on Mount Samaria!p> <p class="poetry">You<n id="2" /> oppress the poor;p> <p class="poetry">you crush the needy.p> <p class="poetry">You say to your<n id="3" /> husbands,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Bring us more to drink!&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="poetry">Burn a thank offering of bread made with yeast!<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">Make a public display of your voluntary offerings!<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">For you love to do this, you Israelites.&#8221;p> <p class="poetry">The sovereign <sc>Lordsc> is speaking!p>

So now listen to the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s message! You say, &#8216;Don&#8217;t prophesy against Israel! Don&#8217;t preach<n id="1" /> against the family of Isaac!&#8217;p>

<t /><p class="poetry">Make this announcement in<n id="1" /> the fortresses of Ashdodp> <p class="poetry">and in the fortresses in the land of Egypt.p> <p class="poetry">Say this:p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Gather on the hills around Samaria!<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Observe the many acts of violence<n id="3" /> taking place within the city,<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">the oppressive deeds<n id="5" /> occurring in it.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>

<p class="poetry">Be certain of this,<n id="1" /> the time is<n id="2" /> coming,&#8221; says the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;when I will send a famine through the land &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">not a shortage of food or waterp> <p class="poetry">but an end to divine revelation!<n id="3" />p>
