I say this<n id="1" /> so you will not corrupt yourselves by making an image in the form of any kind of figure. This includes the likeness of a human male or female,

<p class="poetry">It stands still,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">but I cannot recognize<n id="2" /> its appearance;p> <p class="poetry">an image is before my eyes,p> <p class="poetry">and I hear a murmuring voice:<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;You shall not make for yourself a carved image<n id="1" /> or any likeness<n id="2" /> of anything<n id="3" /> that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water below.<n id="4" />

With him I will speak face to face,<n id="1" /> openly,<n id="2" /> and not in riddles; and he will see the form<n id="3" /> of the <sc>Lordsc>. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?&#8221;

Then the <sc>Lordsc> spoke to you from the middle of the fire; you heard speech but you could not see anything &#8211; only a voice was heard.<n id="1" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Be very careful,<n id="1" /> then, because you saw no form at the time the <sc>Lordsc> spoke to you at Horeb from the middle of the fire.

<t /><p class="bodytext">After you have produced children and grandchildren and have been in the land a long time,<n id="1" /> if you become corrupt and make an image of any kind<n id="2" /> and do other evil things before the <sc>Lordsc> your God that enrage him,<n id="3" />

You must not make for yourself an image<n id="1" /> of anything in heaven above, on earth below, or in the waters beneath.<n id="2" />

Be on guard so that you do not forget the covenant of the <sc>Lordsc> your God that he has made with you, and that you do not make an image of any kind, just as he<n id="1" /> has forbidden<n id="2" /> you.
