He cried out to the <sc>Lordsc>, and the <sc>Lordsc> showed him<n id="1" /> a tree.<n id="2" /> When Moses<n id="3" /> threw it into the water, the water became safe to drink. There the Lord<n id="4" /> made for them<n id="5" /> a binding ordinance,<n id="6" /> and there he tested<n id="7" /> them.

Moses and Aaron did so,<n id="1" /> just as the <sc>Lordsc> had commanded. Moses raised<n id="2" /> the staff<n id="3" /> and struck the water that was in the Nile right before the eyes<n id="4" /> of Pharaoh and his servants,<n id="5" /> and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.<n id="6" />

<p class="bodytext">When the child grew older<n id="1" /> she brought him to Pharaoh&#8217;s daughter, and he became her son.<n id="2" /> She named him Moses, saying, &#8220;Because I drew him from the water.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Extend your hand toward the sea, so that the waters may flow<n id="1" /> back on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen!&#8221;

The water returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the army of Pharaoh that was coming after the Israelites into the sea<n id="1" /> &#8211; not so much as one of them survived!<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Then they came to Elim,<n id="1" /> where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the water.p>

And if<n id="1" /> they do not believe even these two signs or listen to you,<n id="2" /> then take<n id="3" /> some water from the Nile and pour it out on the dry ground. The water you take out of the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

Thus says the <sc>Lordsc>: &#8220;By this you will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>: I am going to strike<n id="1" /> the water of the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned into blood.<n id="2" />

Moses stretched out his hand toward the sea, and the <sc>Lordsc> drove the sea apart<n id="1" /> by a strong east wind all that night, and he made the sea into dry land, and the water was divided.

He took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire, ground it<n id="1" /> to powder, poured it out on the water, and made the Israelites drink it.<n id="2" />p>
