He did evil in the sight of<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc>, as Jehoiakim had done.<n id="2" />p>

He did what displeased the <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> just as Jehoiakim had done.p>

<p class="bodytext">The sons of Josiah:p> <p class="bodytext">Johanan was the firstborn; Jehoiakim was born second; Zedekiah third; and Shallum fourth.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem.<n id="1" /> His mother was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah, from Rumah.

<p class="bodytext">During Jehoiakim&#8217;s reign,<n id="1" /> King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked.<n id="2" /> Jehoiakim was his subject for three years, but then he rebelled against him.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">The rest of the events of Jehoiakim&#8217;s reign and all his accomplishments, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah.<n id="1" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> spoke to Jeremiah<n id="2" /> at the beginning of the reign<n id="3" /> of Josiah&#8217;s son, King Jehoiakim of Judah.

When the king and all his bodyguards<n id="1" /> and officials heard what he was prophesying,<n id="2" /> the king sought to have him executed. But Uriah found out about it and fled to Egypt out of fear.<n id="3" />

However, King Jehoiakim sent some men to Egypt, including Elnathan son of Achbor,<n id="1" />

and they brought Uriah back from there.<n id="1" /> They took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him executed and had his body thrown into the burial place of the common people.<n id="2" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> spoke to Jeremiah when Jehoiakim<n id="1" /> son of Josiah was ruling over Judah.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Zedekiah son of Josiah succeeded Jeconiah<n id="1" /> son of Jehoiakim as king. He was elevated to the throne of the land of Judah by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">In the third<n id="1" /> year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar<n id="2" /> of Babylon advanced against Jerusalem<n id="3" /> and laid it under siege.<n id="4" />

Pharaoh Necho made Josiah&#8217;s son Eliakim king in Josiah&#8217;s place, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. He took Jehoahaz to Egypt, where he died.<n id="1" />

Jehoiakim paid Pharaoh the required amount of silver and gold, but to meet Pharaoh&#8217;s demands Jehoiakim had to tax the land. He collected an assessed amount from each man among the people of the land in order to pay Pharaoh Necho.<n id="1" />p>

The king of Egypt made Jehoahaz&#8217;s<n id="1" /> brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. Necho seized his brother Jehoahaz and took him to Egypt.p>
