But the Israelites<n id="1" /> defeated him in battle<n id="2" /> and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the Ammonites, for the border of the Ammonites was strongly defended.

When the Ammonites saw the Arameans flee, they fled before his brother Abishai and went into the city. Joab withdrew from fighting the Ammonites and returned to<n id="1" /> Jerusalem.<n id="2" />p>

I will hand it over,<n id="1" /> along with the Ammonites,<n id="2" /> to the tribes<n id="3" /> of the east, so that the Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Later King Nahash of the Ammonites died and his son succeeded him.

The Ammonites marched out and were deployed for battle at the entrance to the city, while the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
