God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night<n id="1" /> and said, &#8220;Jacob, Jacob!&#8221; He replied, &#8220;Here I am!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt &#8211; Jacob and his sons:p> <p class="poetry">Reuben, the firstborn of Jacob.p>

<p class="bodytext">Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and presented him<n id="1" /> before Pharaoh. Jacob blessed<n id="2" /> Pharaoh.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Meanwhile Jacob left Beer Sheba and set out for Haran.

<p class="bodytext">So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a memorial pillar.

<p class="poetry">and how he made a vow to the <sc>Lordsc>,p> <p class="poetry">and swore an oath to the powerful ruler of Jacob.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="poetry">O descendants<n id="1" /> of Jacob,p> <p class="poetry">come, let us walk in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s guiding light.<n id="2" />p>

So Jacob went over to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, &#8220;The voice is Jacob&#8217;s, but the hands are Esau&#8217;s.&#8221;

So Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean and brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.p>

<p class="bodytext">Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; the years<n id="1" /> of Jacob&#8217;s life were 147 in all.

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> will certainly have compassion on Jacob;<n id="1" /> he will again choose Israel as his special people<n id="2" /> and restore<n id="3" /> them to their land. Resident foreigners will join them and unite with the family<n id="4" /> of Jacob.

<p class="poetry">All this is because of Jacob&#8217;s rebellionp> <p class="poetry">and<n id="1" /> the sins of the nation<n id="2" /> of Israel.p> <p class="poetry">How has Jacob rebelled, you ask?<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">Samaria epitomizes their rebellion!<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">Where are Judah&#8217;s pagan worship centers, you ask?<n id="5" />p> <p class="poetry">They are right in Jerusalem!<n id="6" />p>

<p class="bodytext">But Jacob replied, &#8220;First<n id="1" /> sell me your birthright.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">So Jacob moved on<n id="1" /> and came to the land of the eastern people.<n id="2" />

Then Jacob kissed Rachel and began to weep loudly.<n id="1" />
