The Levites had<n id="1" /> David&#8217;s musical instruments and the priests had trumpets.

(Now David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to the place he had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.<n id="1" />

So Israel has been in rebellion against the Davidic dynasty to this very day.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Solomon son of David solidified his royal authority,<n id="1" /> for<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc> his God was with him and magnified him greatly.p>

Solomon replied to God, &#8220;You demonstrated<n id="1" /> great loyalty to my father David and have made me king in his place.

Now my father David had a strong desire to build a temple to honor the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel.<n id="1" />

O <sc>Lordsc> God, do not reject your chosen ones!<n id="1" /> Remember the faithful promises you made to your servant David!&#8221;p>

Then Solomon passed away<n id="1" /> and was buried in the city of his father David. His son Rehoboam replaced him as king.p>

Then Rehoboam passed away<n id="1" /> and was buried in the City of David.<n id="2" /> His son Abijah replaced him as king.p>

Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.

He was buried in the City of David<n id="1" /> with the kings, because he had accomplished good in Israel and for God and his temple.p>

Jotham passed away<n id="1" /> and was buried in the City of David.<n id="2" /> His son Ahaz replaced him as king.p>

He did what the <sc>Lordsc> approved, just as his ancestor David had done.<n id="1" />p>

He did what the <sc>Lordsc> approved<n id="1" /> and followed in his ancestor David&#8217;s footsteps;<n id="2" /> he did not deviate to the right or the left.p>

Prepare yourselves by your families according to your divisions, as instructed<n id="1" /> by King David of Israel and his son Solomon.

The priests stood in their assigned spots, along with the Levites who had the musical instruments used for praising the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="1" /> (These were the ones King David made for giving thanks to the <sc>Lordsc> and which were used by David when he offered praise, saying, &#8220;Certainly his loyal love endures.&#8221;)<n id="2" /> Opposite the Levites,<n id="3" /> the priests were blowing the trumpets, while all Israel stood there.

<p class="bodytext">Solomon moved Pharaoh&#8217;s daughter up from the City of David<n id="1" /> to the palace he had built for her, for he said, &#8220;My wife must not live in the palace of King David of Israel, for the places where the ark of the <sc>Lordsc> has entered are holy.&#8221;p>

As his father David had decreed, Solomon<n id="1" /> appointed the divisions of the priests to do their assigned tasks, the Levitical orders to lead worship and help the priests with their daily tasks,<n id="2" /> and the divisions of the gatekeepers to serve at their assigned gates.<n id="3" /> This was what David the man of God had ordered.<n id="4" />

Jehoiada then assigned the duties of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple to the priests, the Levites whom David had assigned to the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple. They were responsible for offering burnt sacrifices to the <sc>Lordsc> with joy and music, according to<n id="1" /> the law of Moses and the edict of David.

Now, <sc>Lordsc> God, may your promise<n id="1" /> to my father David be realized,<n id="2" /> for you have made me king over a great nation as numerous as the dust of the earth.
