<p class="poetry">Turn away from evil and do what is right!<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">Strive for peace and promote it!<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">Do not turn<n id="1" /> to the right or to the left;p> <p class="poetry">turn yourself<n id="2" /> away from evil.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul,p> <p class="poetry">but fools abhor<n id="1" /> turning away from evil.p>

<p class="poetry">A wise person is cautious<n id="1" /> and turns from evil,p> <p class="poetry">but a fool throws off restraint<n id="2" /> and is overconfident.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">Through loyal love and truth<n id="1" /> iniquity is appeased;<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">through fearing the <sc>Lordsc><n id="3" /> one avoids<n id="4" /> evil.<n id="5" />p>

<p class="poetry">The highway<n id="1" /> of the upright is to turn<n id="2" /> away from evil;p> <p class="poetry">the one who guards<n id="3" /> his way safeguards his life.<n id="4" />p>

<p class="poetry">And he said to mankind,p> <p class="poetry">&#8216;The fear of the <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> &#8211; that is wisdom,p> <p class="poetry">and to turn away from evil is understanding.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">Do not be wise in your own estimation;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">fear the <sc>Lordsc> and turn away from evil.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">One who acts wickedly<n id="1" /> pays attention to evil counsel;<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">a liar listens<n id="3" /> to a malicious tongue.<n id="4" />p>

<t /><n id="2" /><p class="bodytext">There was a man<n id="3" /> in the land of Uz<n id="4" /> whose<n id="5" /> name was Job.<n id="6" /> And that man was pure<n id="7" /> and upright,<n id="8" /> one who feared God and turned away from evil.<n id="9" />

<p class="poetry">Honesty has disappeared;p> <p class="poetry">the one who tries to avoid evil is robbed.p> <p class="poetry">The <sc>Lordsc> watches and is displeased,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">for there is no justice.p>

One basket had very good-looking figs in it. They looked like those that had ripened early.<n id="1" /> The other basket had very bad-looking figs in it, so bad they could not be eaten.

So the <sc>Lordsc> said to Satan, &#8220;Have you considered<n id="1" /> my servant Job? There<n id="2" /> is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away<n id="3" /> from evil.&#8221;p>

Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to Satan, &#8220;Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil. And he still holds firmly<n id="1" /> to his integrity,<n id="2" /> so that<n id="3" /> you stirred me up to destroy him<n id="4" /> without reason.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

The <sc>Lordsc> said to me, &#8220;What do you see, Jeremiah?&#8221; I answered, &#8220;I see figs. The good ones look very good. But the bad ones look very bad, so bad that they cannot be eaten.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;I, the <sc>Lordsc>, also solemnly assert: &#8216;King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and the people who remain in Jerusalem<n id="1" /> or who have gone to live in Egypt are like those bad figs. I consider them to be just like those bad figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten.<n id="2" />

The <sc>Lordsc> who rules over all<n id="1" /> says, &#8216;I will bring war,<n id="2" /> starvation, and disease on them. I will treat them like figs that are so rotten<n id="3" /> they cannot be eaten.
