When Achan son of Zerah disobeyed the command about the city&#8217;s riches, the entire Israelite community was judged,<n id="1" /> though only one man had sinned. He most certainly died for his sin!&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">One time Acsah<n id="1" /> came and charmed her father<n id="2" /> so that she could ask him for some land. When she got down from her donkey, Caleb said to her, &#8220;What would you like?&#8221;

The commander of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s army answered Joshua, &#8220;Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you stand is holy.&#8221; Joshua did so.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">But the Israelites disobeyed the command about the city&#8217;s riches.<n id="1" /> Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi,<n id="2" /> son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, stole some of the riches.<n id="3" /> The <sc>Lordsc> was furious with the Israelites.<n id="4" />p>

At sunset Joshua ordered his men to take them down from the trees.<n id="1" /> They threw them into the cave where they had hidden and piled large stones over the mouth of the cave. (They remain to this very day.)<n id="2" />p>

If you violate the covenantal laws of the <sc>Lordsc> your God which he commanded you to keep,<n id="1" /> and follow, worship, and bow down to other gods,<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc> will be very angry with you and you will disappear<n id="3" /> quickly from the good land which he gave to you.&#8221;p>

know for certain that the <sc>Lordsc> our God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. They will trap and ensnare you;<n id="1" /> they will be a whip that tears<n id="2" /> your sides and thorns that blind<n id="3" /> your eyes until you disappear<n id="4" /> from this good land the <sc>Lordsc> your God gave you.p>

But in the same way every faithful promise the <sc>Lordsc> your God made to you has been realized,<n id="1" /> it is just as certain, if you disobey, that the <sc>Lordsc> will bring on you every judgment<n id="2" /> until he destroys you from this good land which the <sc>Lordsc> your God gave you.
