<p class="bodytext">So Hagar gave birth to Abram&#8217;s son, whom Abram named Ishmael.<n id="1" />

The foreigner who resides with you must be to you like a native citizen among you; so<n id="1" /> you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the <sc>Lordsc> your God.

The same law will apply<n id="1" /> to the person who is native-born and to the foreigner who lives among you.&#8221;p>

So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Sarai,<n id="1" /> Abram&#8217;s wife, had not given birth to any children,<n id="2" /> but she had an Egyptian servant<n id="3" /> named Hagar.<n id="4" />

He had sexual relations with<n id="1" /> Hagar, and she became pregnant.<n id="2" /> Once Hagar realized she was pregnant, she despised Sarai.<n id="3" />

(Now<n id="1" /> Abram was 86 years old<n id="2" /> when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael.)<n id="3" />p>

But Sarah noticed<n id="1" /> the son of Hagar the Egyptian &#8211; the son whom Hagar had borne to Abraham &#8211; mocking.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">This is the account of Abraham&#8217;s son Ishmael,<n id="1" /> whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah&#8217;s servant, bore to Abraham.p>

One law and one custom must apply to you and to the resident foreigner who lives alongside you.&#8217;&#8221;p>

And the whole community<n id="1" /> of the Israelites and the resident foreigner who lives among them will be forgiven, since all the people were involved in the unintentional offense.p>

You must have one law for the person who sins unintentionally, both for the native-born among the Israelites and for the resident foreigner who lives among them.p>

The foreigners<n id="1" /> who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

In whatever tribe the foreigner resides, there you will give him his inheritance,&#8221; declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.p>

<p class="bodytext">But God heard the boy&#8217;s voice.<n id="1" /> The angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and asked her, &#8220;What is the matter,<n id="2" /> Hagar? Don&#8217;t be afraid, for God has heard<n id="3" /> the boy&#8217;s voice right where he is crying.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;Any man<n id="1" /> from the house of Israel or from the foreigners who reside<n id="2" /> in their<n id="3" /> midst who eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats the blood, and I will cut him off from the midst of his people,<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;Any man from the Israelites<n id="1" /> or from the foreigners who reside<n id="2" /> in their<n id="3" /> midst who hunts a wild animal<n id="4" /> or a bird that may be eaten<n id="5" /> must pour out its blood and cover it with soil,

&#8220;You are to say to the Israelites, &#8216;Any man from the Israelites or from the foreigners who reside in Israel<n id="1" /> who gives any of his children<n id="2" /> to Molech<n id="3" /> must be put to death; the people of the land must pelt him with stones.<n id="4" />

He said, &#8220;Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?&#8221; She replied, &#8220;I&#8217;m running away from<n id="1" /> my mistress, Sarai.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;You must not oppress<n id="1" /> a foreigner, since you know the life<n id="2" /> of a foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.p>
