His mother used to make him a small robe and bring it up to him at regular intervals when she would go up with her husband to make the annual sacrifice.

<p class="bodytext">So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s house. But Samuel was afraid to tell Eli about the vision.

Why harden your hearts like the Egyptians and Pharaoh did?<n id="1" /> When God<n id="2" /> treated them harshly, didn&#8217;t the Egyptians send the Israelites on their way?<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">Now the residents of Beth Shemesh were harvesting wheat in the valley. When they looked up and saw the ark, they were pleased at the sight.

Year after year he used to travel the circuit of Bethel,<n id="1" /> Gilgal, and Mizpah; he used to judge Israel in all of these places.

<p class="bodytext">Samuel said to the people, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> is the one who chose Moses and Aaron and who brought your ancestors<n id="1" /> up from the land of Egypt.

However, fear the <sc>Lordsc> and serve him faithfully with all your heart. Just look at the great things he has done for you!

<p class="bodytext">So Saul assembled<n id="1" /> the army<n id="2" /> and mustered them at Telaim. There were 200,000 foot soldiers and 10,000 men of Judah.

The <sc>Lordsc> sent you on a campaign<n id="1" /> saying, &#8216;Go and exterminate those sinful Amalekites! Fight against them until you<n id="2" /> have destroyed them.&#8217;

<p class="bodytext">Then Saul said to Samuel, &#8220;I have sinned, for I have disobeyed what the <sc>Lordsc> commanded<n id="1" /> and what you said as well.<n id="2" /> For I was afraid of the army, and I followed their wishes.<n id="3" />

Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you should do. You will anoint for me the one I point out<n id="1" /> to you.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, &#8220;Bring him up to me on his bed so I can kill him.&#8221;
