But they exclaimed, ¹  “No, my lord! Your servants have come to buy grain for food!

Jacob’s sons killed them ¹  and looted the city because their sister had been violated. ² 

People from every country ¹  came to Joseph in Egypt to buy grain because the famine was severe throughout the earth.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.

male and female, came into the ark to Noah, ¹  just as God had commanded him. ² 

Those that entered were male and female, ¹  just as God commanded him. Then the Lord shut him in.

They shouted to Lot, ¹  “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so we can have sex ²  with them!”

When they had eaten them, ¹  no one would have known ²  that they had done so, for they were just as bad-looking as before. Then I woke up.

Now it was reported ¹  in the household of Pharaoh, “Joseph’s brothers have arrived.” It pleased ²  Pharaoh and his servants.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and go ¹  to the land of Canaan!

Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father, my brothers, their flocks and herds, and all that they own have arrived from the land of Canaan. They are now ¹  in the land of Goshen.”

Look, I have two daughters who have never had sexual relations with ¹  a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do to them whatever you please. ²  Only don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection ³  of my roof.” ⁴ 

Now Jacob’s sons had come in from the field when they heard the news. ¹  They ²  were offended ³  and very angry because Shechem ⁴  had disgraced Israel ⁵  by sexually assaulting ⁶  Jacob’s daughter, a crime that should not be committed. ⁷ 

Then Joseph said to his brothers and his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh, ¹  ‘My brothers and my father’s household who were in the land of Canaan have come to me.
