<p class="bodytext">So they went up from Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan.<n id="1" />

So Israel&#8217;s sons came to buy grain among the other travelers,<n id="1" /> for the famine was severe in the land of Canaan.p>

<p class="bodytext">Jacob<n id="1" /> sent Judah before him to Joseph to accompany him to Goshen.<n id="2" /> So they came to the land of Goshen.

Pairs<n id="1" /> of all creatures<n id="2" /> that have the breath of life came into the ark to Noah.

Then they attacked En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh) again,<n id="1" /> and they conquered all the territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who were living in Hazazon Tamar.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">The two angels came to Sodom in the evening while<n id="1" /> Lot was sitting in the city&#8217;s gateway.<n id="2" /> When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face toward the ground.p>

<p class="bodytext">But he urged<n id="1" /> them persistently, so they turned aside with him and entered his house. He prepared a feast for them, including bread baked without yeast, and they ate.

<p class="bodytext">That day Isaac&#8217;s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. &#8220;We&#8217;ve found water,&#8221; they reported.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">Now Joseph was the ruler of the country, the one who sold grain to all the people of the country.<n id="1" /> Joseph&#8217;s brothers came and bowed down<n id="2" /> before him with<n id="3" /> their faces to the ground.

<p class="bodytext">They returned to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan and told him all the things that had happened to them, saying,

Jacob and all his descendants took their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and they went to Egypt.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">When they came to the threshing floor of Atad<n id="1" /> on the other side of the Jordan, they mourned there with very great and bitter sorrow.<n id="2" /> There Joseph observed a seven day period of mourning for his father.

<p class="bodytext">Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (the son of Haran), and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram&#8217;s wife, and with them he set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. When they came to Haran, they settled there.

And Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew<n id="1" /> Lot, and all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired<n id="2" /> in Haran, and they left for<n id="3" /> the land of Canaan. They entered the land of Canaan.p>

<p class="bodytext">When they came to the place God had told him about, Abraham built the altar there<n id="1" /> and arranged the wood on it. Next he tied up<n id="2" /> his son Isaac and placed him on the altar on top of the wood.

In three days, when they were still in pain, two of Jacob&#8217;s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah&#8217;s brothers, each took his sword<n id="1" /> and went to the unsuspecting city<n id="2" /> and slaughtered every male.

When the money from the lands of Egypt and Canaan was used up, all the Egyptians<n id="1" /> came to Joseph and said, &#8220;Give us food! Why should we die<n id="2" /> before your very eyes because our money has run out?&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">When that year was over, they came to him the next year and said to him, &#8220;We cannot hide from our<n id="1" /> lord that the money is used up and the livestock and the animals belong to our lord. Nothing remains before our lord except our bodies and our land.
